Peter Horjus

Peter Horjus is a Santa Barbara-based artist, illustrator, and graphic designer whose work spans fine art paintings, editorial illustration, logo design, and brand identity. He approaches every project, whether a gallery painting or a corporate mark, with the same goal: distilling an idea down to its simplest, most memorable visual form.

Peter earned his Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Graphic Design at Point Loma College, where he also taught design, and went on to pursue graduate studies in graphic design at San Diego State University and landscape architecture at Cal Poly. Early in his career he worked on design projects for the U.S. Navy's Naval Ocean Systems Command, served as an associate art director at a regional home and garden magazine, and designed packaging for a pharmaceutical communications firm before launching his own studio.

Over the years Peter has partnered with the New York illustration agency Rapp Art and built a client roster that includes national publications, Fortune 100 brands, and local Santa Barbara businesses alike. His studio, now located in the historic Walter Claudio Building on West Figueroa Street, doubles as a working gallery where visitors can see original paintings alongside design and illustration work in progress.

When he's not at the easel or the drawing table, Peter enjoys mentoring design students, sketching at local coffee shops, and searching out vintage typography and old Land Rovers. He's always glad to hear from new clients and collectors, so feel free to reach out through the contact page to start a conversation.
